When you are finished wearing your jewelry pieces, wipe them with a clean, soft, slightly damp cloth. This allows you to store it clean, so nothing accumulates that will dulled the stone. Store these pieces individually, preferably in pouches that you may be able to get from your jeweler. Salt water or harsh chemicals, such as chlorine or detergents erode the finish, polish or even color of a stone.
Gemstones should be worn last. After hairspray, nail polish, makeup and any other such items are applied. You should remove all Jewelry before showering or washing hands. Soaps cause the creation of film. This destroys the luster of jewelry. Soft chamois are an effective way to clean jewelry at home. Chlorine bleach is harmful to jewelry. Hot tubs, pools, cleaning or any work being done with chlorine should be done without jewelry on.
You can remove tarnish with jewelry cleaner, or by using soap and water mixed with a few drops of ammonia. A brush with a soft bristle like an old toothbrush can also be used. After the brushing, simply rinse with lukewarm water and allow to dry. If there is a heavy tarnish on your jewelry, consult your jeweler for the best cleaning procedure.

Silver may oxidize. Clean with a mild soap and water solution, allowing the water to bead up. Then pat dry with a soft cloth. For more stubborn dirt, use a jewelry cleaner designed for silver use. Ask your jeweler to recommend an appropriate brand.
Store silver in a cool dry place. The most preferable would be to place items in a tarnish-preventive bag or wrapped in a soft piece of felt or cloth. Also store them individually. Do not rub silver with anything other than a jewelers polishing cloth or a fine piece of felt. A jeweler may provide these to you free of cost when purchasing.
Air and light causes silver to tarnish. Do not store them exposed. Chlorine and household products and chemicals will contribute to tarnishing silver.
