Diamond Education - Thing everyone should know
Since we sell stones over the Internet the customer has tons of advantages but the hardest thing is that you have to know what you want in order for us to sell it to you. This is done real easy and we want you to follow our proven success theory. Your first education step is to actually go shopping, that's right, go to the mall or a jewelry store in your area if possible. You can not learn, or in many cases even see, the differences in a set diamond so make sure to look at LOOSE diamonds only. Once a diamond is set, the prongs, or bezel, not only cover part of the diamond (thereby possibly hiding flaws), but they also make exact color determination almost impossible (diamonds often draw color from the surrounding metal). And without knowing the true color and clarity, you cannot determine a diamonds true worth.
When a dealer is located tell him you are just starting to look for a diamond and that you would like to be educated to the differences in diamonds. Let him show you the differences comparing one loose diamond to another. Most dealers will be happy to do this and it makes our job easier as well, not to mention you'll know more about what your wanting to buy.
YOU determine what's important to YOU. So be sure you see it all. Decide if color is the main critical factor to you, or clarity, or cut, or size. You will learn fast that as the four C's change so does the price (or at least it should). Do not let them tell you what is more important. If you don't want to pay for a certified diamond then why should you. Or if that is important to you don't let them tell you one is better than another.

Diamond Education Tips
If you can find a store in your area that deals in certificated diamonds, go to him. If you go to more than one dealer do not be surprised if the information changes slightly as they stress what they feel is the most important factor in regards to a diamond (normally based on their inventory). You will also be surprised how you are drawn to diamonds that are similar to others you have seen, or how one diamond always stays fixed in the back of your mind, no matter how many other diamonds you are shown.
Loose Diamond Conclusion -Diamond Education
Be sure you see all the different cuts (including proportions), colors, clarities and carat-weights. See it all. Then come back to me with any questions you may have, or quotes you may have found that you would like to compare. We guarantee we will be able to beat anyone's quote or we will pay you 10% the difference. Educating yourself about diamonds is and should be your main concern.
If you would like to make my job easier come back with a price range you would like to stay within. When I do my shopping it is to my, and your, advantage to be working with a price with a little flexibility in color, and grade, rather then ordering a fixed grade and size and thereby putting me at the dealers mercy. Once I have a price range, and an idea of what you are after, I can very often surprise you with what I find that you may never have thought I would.
And lastly, if all of this
investigative shopping is not for
you, remember, this is what I am
here for. My job is to bring you the
most for your money, and more
importantly, the diamond YOU want.

Diamond Cut - Education about the cut of the diamond
When we speak of cut we are more interested in the proportions of the diamond as opposed to it's shape (Round Brilliant, Marquise, Pear, Princess, etc.) Every diamond regardless of its shape gets it brilliancy and scintillation by cutting and polishing the diamond facets to allow the maximum amount of light that enters through its top to be reflected and dispersed back through its top. A correctly cut, "well made", stone is pictured in diagram 1. As you can see if the angles are correct the light that enters is dispersed properly back through the diamond's top facets. When a stone is cut too shallow (diagram2) or too deep (diagram3) the light that enters through the top is allowed to escape through the diamond's bottom and does not allow the maximum beauty of the diamond to be realized. The diamonds offered from Wholesale Importers, Inc. are well made diamonds. If however the proportions are very important to you and you wish for an "exceptional make" or "ideal make" (both of which cost more) it will be provided. |

DIAMOND COLOR - Learn about the color your ordering
Diamonds come naturally in every color of the rainbow. However most people are concerned with diamonds in the white range. The Gemological Institute of America (G.I.A.) rates the body color in white diamonds from D (colorless) to Z (light yellow). Wholesale Importers, Inc. offers diamonds in the entire white color range.
D E F colorless..... G H I J near colorless .....K L M faint yellow
N O P Q R very light yellow ..... S T U V W X Y Z light yellow
DIAMOND CLARITY - Study the grades
The clarity of a diamond is determined by the amount and location of flaws, or blemishes, in the diamond when viewed under 10 power (10x) magnification. G.I.A. rates clarity grades in diamonds from Flawless to Imperfect 3 (see chart below). Wholesale Importers, Inc. offers you diamonds from the Imperfect 1 grade through Flawless. Grading is very important and diamond grading and education should get you a great stone in the end. |

DIAMOND CARAT WEIGHT
A carat is a unit of measure. There are 5 carats to a gram. As the carat weight of a diamond increases so does its rarity and therefore it's price. Wholesale Importers, Inc. offers diamonds from .25carat (1/4 carat) to 10 carats.
PLUS ONE... CONFIDENCE WHEN GRADING DIAMONDS. EDUCATION IS KEY!
Those are the 4 C's of diamonds. If you have purchased a diamond before, this refresher course may be all you need to proceed to the order form. If however you are still vague as to what you want, we urge you to shop your area. Find a store that sells loose diamonds. This is important, because, once a diamond is set, telling it's true color, clarity, and weight is impossible. Look at the differences in the cut, color, clarity, and carat weight. Become familiar with the product, to the point you are satisfied, then come back to our order form. When you place your order with us, you will have your 5th "C", confidence. For you will have the knowledge of what you are ordering, receiving, and paying for. YOU will have YOUR diamond. Email us and we will be happy to give you a quote on a diamond you are looking to purchase. We can save you $1000's. |
