When selling diamonds one needs a few essential tools. The first and most important tool to purchase is a digital scale that can weigh diamonds as small as .001ct and up to 100 carats. Now you might think why should you need a scale to weigh 100 carats. The main reason is you won't only be weighing single diamonds for sell on your online store but you'll want to weigh parcels of diamonds for resell to your larger customers. Remember selling individual diamonds is a good start but you'll need to start selling in bulk so your not spending too much time with smaller customers (unless you have the help to do so). Personally we do both and it works out great. We love helping people find diamonds that they need either for themselves or for a customer.
The second tool that you'll need is a good pair of quality tweezers. You'll also need a medium to poor pair or two as well to do the sorting. You can expect to spend $30-50 on a good pair of diamond tweezers and under $10 for a medium pair or two. When finding a pair look for a pair that fits your needs. If you think you are going to be handling small .01ct diamond then you'll need a pair that has a real fine point to grab diamonds. You'll also need to pick up a diamond sorting tray which we sell on this website. You don't want your diamonds going everywhere when you do your sorting. When you start to collect your jewelry tools you'll soon realize that they are real easy to find and you'll need to get a few of everything, especially if you have help with your diamond business. You can purchase everything you need for under $50 and your all set.
A few other jewelry tools you may want to consider, especially if you start selling finished jewelry or mountings. We produce a small rubbing cloth that will allow you to buff out small scratches. These cloths are real handy and can come into use when your working with a customers jewelry piece. It won't buff out large scratches but for normal wear and tear you'll be fine. They are all under $10 and can be use time and time. Once you start doing more rings and pieces for clients you'll need to invest in a ultrasonic machine and even a high powered ring buffer. These two tools are a little expensive but will be a must once your business grows.
The last thing that every wholesaler should have is a great attitude. I know it is not exactly a tool as far as a physical tool but probably the most important. When you are a wholesaler you need to stay on top of the market and understand what is going on at all times. When you have a chance to purchase a parcel of diamonds and you know you can make money on it it should become second nature. We have been doing it for so many years that we purchase diamond and jewelry all the time over the net even from other wholesalers because we know we can easily sell them online on our store or to another wholesaler. Remember your not the only wholesaler in the United States and you have to be able to adjust and purchase from anyone.
